For Dog People

Hi Joan,

I love the “Dogs and People” you sent a while back. I know you are a “Dog People”  having had Pepe and Bandit for years. I’m not sure if you can have animals where you live, but I hope so.

When things are tough my dog is there to pick me up and get me moving. She lives to go walking and she goes crazy when she sees me pick up her leash. (She does he happy run all around the place and meets me at the front gate along with Jean’s dog (Baby). So, we are off and up the hill we go. We only walk a mile, but I am convinced that it is the main reason I am still breathing.

BESOS

My dog Besos (Kisses). I took Trixie to get shots at the shelter a year and a half ago. When I walked by where she was, she jumped on the fence and licked my hand. So, I asked them to let her out which they did. She promptly jumped up and slobbered on my face (Kisses)…no way I could leave her there.

BABY

Baby (aka Little Shit, Piss Bucket, etc.) is Jean’s dog. She is a Toy Australian Shepard, very smart and Besos’ leader. She digs up about everything and calls on Besos for major excavations. They have remodeled my whole irrigation system… which I had to make the system dog-proof.
She loves walking and like Besos, when I get the leashes off the hook she joins Besos in the “Happy Run”
.

TRIXIE

I adopted Trixie because 2 people had tried her out and brought her back. The shelter had lost hope because she didn’t want to be around people. She had been locked in somewhere and mistreated. They asked me to see if she would adapt out here.

The day I brought her home I thought I would put her on a lead to let her settle down for a couple days. She was so scared, she bit me several times and made a mess of my arm. So, I turned her loose and she ran out to the fence but settled down. She would not come near me for a month.  I had to set her food out and get away before she would eat. But in time she was with me constantly. She was my walking partner for almost 14 years, but I had to have her put down a month ago. She had a huge cancer on her throat. As she was going under, she was licking my hand and ended with her tongue stuck to the hand…..broke my heart.

These two girls only stop when they sleep
Trixie was Baby’s protector….

The Crew

All is well!!

Joan, I remember the morning walks on the golf course in San Carlos. I am old enough now to take the time to remember the good things in my life. The many people and animals have left me at peace. I hope Bill, Your Mom, and you are happy and at peace also!!

Love,
george
