Tarahumara Drums (tambor): There are three basic types of drums made the Tarahumara. The flat or hoop drum is made by bending wood into a circle then making the heads from goat hide and stretching them on with rawhide lace. The "bark drum” is simply a pine log hollowed out with rawhide stretched over the ends and laced with rawhide. The bark is usually left on the drum. The largest drums (ceremonial or pow wow) are either large bark drums or more often than not are made by cutting branches into wedges lengthwise> These wedges are stood on end in a circle and lashed with rawhide to hold the shape. Then rawhide is stretched across the ends and secured with rawhide lacing. These Tarahumara Indian drums make great western wall decor for about any taste.
